Manners & Etiquette Course

Manners and Etiquette Course Combined with Homestay and English Language Study.

This Manners and Etiquette itinerary is proposed on the basis of a residential course, with accommodation being provided at The Old Rectory, an eighteenth century country house. The Old Rectory is ideally situated near Cambridge, Newmarket and Norwich, and many of the activities will take place here or nearby.

More Than Good Manners has extensive experience of hosting foreign students and therefore the programme is based on this, with the itinerary planned to focus on Manners, Etiquette, Protocol, English conversation, and a variety of activities and sports traditionally enjoyed by the British upper classes.

The itinerary allows participants to study English and a variety of sporting and social activities while staying in an exclusive British home. Participants will be able to learn social skills for the 21st century, balanced with old world charm, manners and etiquette of the British aristocracy. It is designed for participants from the age of 12 years upwards.

The programme of activities will be used as a springboard for conversation and vocabulary development of English Language skills. Cultural trips to Cambridge and Norwich for example would provide other natural subjects to develop their vocabulary and encourage them to speak fluently about these topics.

We also propose to put together a DVD presentation of some of the things the participants experience during their stay; including sporting, cultural or even rehearse a short drama script, which they might have created themselves, which could be filmed and taken home to show their parents and friends.

The activities are selected to encourage natural communication, and as the dynamics of the participants develops then the sessions can be altered to suit their needs. In our experience having a too prescriptive a plan is not always ideal. Manners, Protocol and Etiquette lessons will be held throughout the visit, and the vocabulary associated therewith will be reinforced in the English conversation classes held between other organised activities.

The itinerary is based on a twelve day visit with twelve nights’ accommodation, but can be adapted for shorter or longer periods as required. At this stage we have not included costs, but would do this per participant and would include all activities, accommodations at the Old Rectory and all meals included in the itinerary. The costs do not include transportation to and from The Old Rectory at the beginning and end of the visit nor transport to activities which cannot take place at the Old Rectory.

The Old Rectory is easily reached by car or by train – the nearest station is Downham Market, from which transfers to the Old Rectory can be arranged.

All activities will be managed by More than Good Manners in arrangement with third parties] e.g for the cookery course who in each case will have their own insurances and be CRB] checked.

More Than Good Manners also carries indemnity insurances for all activities directly undertaken on behalf of clients.
